Another outside cause

A recent house fire in Chester was caused by fire getting outside of a grill, catching the outside of the house ablaze, with spread to the inside. Firefighters arrived to find the exterior rear of the house in flames, with extension into the attic. No one was injured, but the house suffered extensive damage. I do not know how the fire got outside of the grill, so I will have to offer causes based upon past experience. Some reasons that fire can get outside of the grill are as follows: Lack of maintenance to a propane grill, excessive lighter fluid…

Elizabeth Davis Middle School (EDMS) is pretty excited about its summer reading program. “Let Me Take a Shelfie,” which includes taking pictures of the reader while doing what? Well, reading of course. Susan Worsham-Moore and Emily McDaniel, librarians at EDMS, are pretty hyped about the new program. “This is our first big kickoff for the summer reading program,” Worsham-Moore said. McDaniel shared that the program has a whole new outlook. “They have to take pictures of themselves reading in certain settings,” she said. “Then they have to send them to us all during the summer so they can be eligible…

Bridging the Gap

Students from Salem Church Middle School participated in their first annual “bridging the gap” event this year, where volunteer students refurbished computers and donated them to families in need. Virginia STAR (Student Training and Refurbishment Program) receives impaired computers each year from state government agencies, in hopes of having students refurbish these computers and donate them to families without a computer in their home. This was the first year that Salem Church middle participated in this statewide event. More than 20 students volunteered their own time after school to refurbish these computers. Not only are these children giving back to…
