Three Seniors Inducted into Senior Volunteer Hall of Fame

Three Chesterfield County seniors, Irene Barbara Mason, Ruth Jordan, and Nancy Ross, were inducted into the Senior Volunteer Hall of Fame, a program established in 1983 to recognize seniors who make a difference in their communities. Mason, Jordan, and Ross were recognized last month during a ceremony on May 26 at the Chesterfield County Government Complex. Fifteen Chesterfield County seniors were nominated this year for their valuable contributions to the community, collectively totaling 53,187 hours. Older Americans Month Essay Contest Winners Announced

Students in grades four and five were given an opportunity to acknowledge older adults who have had positive impacts on their lives through an essay contest that was open to all Chesterfield County Public School students. Essays were received from 262 students at 12 elementary schools. The Board of Supervisors recognized Lia Green, a student at Winterpock Elementary School, as the grand-prize winner of the annual essay contest for Older Americans Month at their meeting on April 27. Schools Win Virginia Index of Performance Awards

Gov. Terry McAuliffe and the Virginia Board of Education recently honored 11 Chesterfield County schools with 2016 Virginia Index of Performance awards for advanced learning and achievement. Midlothian Middle was one of just eight schools across the state and the only school in central Virginia to earn the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence (GAEE). More than 4,300 Chesterfield students will receive their high school diplomas during graduation ceremonies June 9 through June 13 at VCU’s Siegel Center, 1200 W. Matoaca field hockey star to play at Shenadoah

Aubree Carasquillo, a Matoaca High field hockey standout has signed with Shenandoah University. The center midfielder played five season for the Warriors and served as varsity team captain for two years. Her many field hockey recognitions include Most Valuable Player, All-Academic Conference 12 team and All Conference 12 First team.
