0Long-time Chester resident, Elton Rutherford Beverly died after a brief illness at CJW hospital on April 29, with his wife by his side. In the late 1970s Elton Rutherford Beverly was not only a fan of the arts, but especially the performing arts. He was active with the John Rolfe Players, a local theatre group, based in Chester. He recently contributed funds to the building of the Chesterfield Center for the Arts and purchased a seat that is inscribed JRP Member & Actor. CCPS start time could be shuffled
0School start times could change if several pieces fall into place. The Chesterfield School Board could be swapping elementary and high school start times but it may take some time to implement. After some grappling, CCPS has settled on a plan to swap high school and elementary school start times, shifting the elementary school start time by 25 minutes. As a result, 27 elementary schools will run from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The other 11 and eight middle schools will run from 8:35 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. Four middle schools and all high schools will run from 9:30 a.m.…

0While the sale of homes in Chesterfield County is just a bit lower than last year; home prices have plummeted since its peak in July of last year. March 2015 posted 368 homes sold compared with 370 units in March of this year. Both are well below that measured last July (635 or about 18 percent). 0To the Editor: The letter from Mr. L. J. McCoy, Jr., President of the Chesterfield NAACP, contained a very interesting comment. He asked: “Why would any political party wish to continually reject an individual because he or she made a mistake in the past?” Being only a college graduate, I thought I understood the meaning of the word “mistake.” Referring the matter to Webster in order to reacquaint myself with the definition of the word, I read the following: “a wrong action proceeding from faulty judgment, inadequate knowledge, or inattention. Gov’s Order Not All Good News
0To the Editor: L.J. McCoy’s letter of last week applauded Gov. McAuliffe’s recent executive order restoring voting rights to convicted felons. I agree. However, the executive order also includes the right to serve on a jury, run for public office, and serve as a notary. I can’t imagine any grieving parent or crime victim wanting to see a convicted rapist or murderer seated as a member of a jury for their case. In fact, worse case, I can see a convicted felon using jury duty as an opportunity to “screw” the system that incarcerated them. Cheryl Fox
