Bird 44 – Monacan 0
The Skyhawks continued their dominance of the Dominion District with another convincing victory. Monacan mustered just 78 yards of offense against a stout Bird defense, and quarterback Terrance Ervin set school records for completions (60) and passing yards in a season (912). Running back Paul Robertson turned in another monster game for Bird with 243 yards rushing on 19 carries and three touchdowns. Rasheed Worsham and Gary Dorsey caught touchdown passes from Ervin, and Raymond Ortiz rushed for another touchdown. Bird scored 30 of their 44 points in the first quarter.
With the win, Bird improved to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the Dominion. Next week Bird will host Thomas Dale in the second rendition of the Battle of Chester this season. The Skyhawks have won the last four match-ups between the two teams.
Dinwiddie 44 – Matoaca 23
Matoaca running back Khalil Coleman had 135 yards on the ground and three touchdowns, but that effort was not enough for Matoaca to overcome Dinwiddie last Friday. The Warriors trailed 16-7 at the half, but couldn’t keep up with the Generals offense in the second half.
With the loss, Matoaca is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. They are now 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the Central District. Matoaca will host Prince George for senior night on Friday. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
