Art students at the Specialty Center for Visual & Performing Arts at Thomas Dale High School received awards at the Bon Air Art Show in October. The show was sponsored by the Bon Air Artists Association and was judged by professional artists. Senior Sabrina Solomon lives in the Chester area and won First Place for her large portrait and Honorable Mention for her cityscape drawing. Solomon plans to attend VCU School of the Arts and major in art education in the fall. Senior Lauren Gegner, who lives in Midlothian, also won Honorable Mention for her watercolor painting.
These artists are completing their fourth year of the Specialty Center Visual Arts program, which attracts students from all districts of Chesterfield County who are highly interested and talented in art. Specialty Center programs in music, dance and theatre are also offered.
“Working in the Specialty Center program for four years has really improved my observational skills and my teachers have really been an inspiration,” Gegner said. The Specialty Center for the Arts will host an important open house for interested eighth-grade families on November 14 at 7 p.m. For more information about the programs or to view the online art gallery, please visit www.SpecialtyCenterArts.com.
