Marching Knights earn Superior Rating at state competition

The Marching Knights of Thomas Dale have completed another outstanding marching season. One of the largest marching bands in the Metro-Richmond area, Thomas Dale competed against other bands across Virginia and North Carolina to win multiple awards.

On Saturday, October 27, the Marching Knights earned their 7th Superior Rating in the last eight years at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors’ State Marching Performance Assessment held at Massaponax High School. The Superior rating was unanimous from all professional music judges. This makes the Thomas Dale band program eligible again for the “Virginia Honor Band” designation. This award is the highest honor a Virginia band program can receive.

At the Hermitage High School Classic, the Marching Knights earned Best Color Guard of the Day and 3rd Place Band in Class 4A. At the Warhill Invitational in Williamsburg in Class 4A, they were awarded 1st Place Music, 1stt Place Color Guard, 2nd Place Drum Majors, 2nd Place Percussion, 2nd Place Marching, 2nd Place General Effect, and 2nd Place Overall and a Superior rating. At the Eastern North Carolina Marching Festival, they were awarded 3rd Place Band in Class 3A with the 3rd highest score of the day and the Aimee Erwin Spirit Award, and another Superior Rating. Directors are Dave Holley and Steve Barton.
