Driver in single-vehicle crash charged

The Chesterfield County Police Department has charged the driver involved in a single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday, Dec. 16, on Cricklewood Drive in the area of Strathmore Road.

Police say they attempted to stop a 2000 Buick sedan on Strathmore Road for reckless driving. The driver failed to stop, leading police on a short vehicle pursuit before losing control and crashing on Cricklewood Drive. The driver, Anthony Randolph Lawrence Peay, 22, fled the scene of the crash. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to VCU Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Peay, of the 3200 block of Third Avenue in Richmond, was apprehended Sunday. He was arrested and charged with two counts of felony hit and run, as well as eluding police, reckless driving and driving on a revoked license. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
