Former planning manager, daughter murdered

The Chesterfield County Police Department has obtained warrants for a man in relation to a double homicide that occurred on Monday, Jan. 7, at a residence in the 5200 block of River Road.

At about 5:45 p.m. last Monday, police received a 911 call from a UPS driver making a delivery at the residence. When the driver approached the door, he saw shattered glass and a body on the floor just inside the doorway. Officers arrived within minutes and searched the residence, finding a second body elsewhere in the home.

Police identified the victims as Barbara Fassett, 65, and her daughter, Elizabeth S. Fassett, 42. Both women lived at the River Road residence.

Police have obtained warrants for Herbert C. Bland Jr., of the 20000 block of Harris Drive in Dinwiddie County, with two counts of first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the incident. Police believe Bland, 23, was Elizabeth Fassett’s ex-boyfriend.

Bland is currently being treated at VCU Medical Center for a gunshot wound he received yesterday at a home in Dinwiddie County. The Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating that shooting along with the death of Bland’s father, who was found shot to death in the same home.
