Musical performance kicks off Black History Month

Chesterfield County’s 24th annual Black History Month commemorations will begin on Friday, February 1, with a free concert by the Ordinary People Band at the Fulghum Center, 4003 Cogbill Road, North Chesterfield, from 7 to 9 p.m. Enjoy the soulful groove of this popular local band, and listen to Chesterfield County’s own, Nyasia. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

The Ordinary People Band formed in the fall of 2006 when vocalist Xavier Shannon, drummer Charles Fordham and pianist Ivan Orr decided to take their musical experience to a new level. They wanted to simplify the whole concept of a band back to the fundamental roots - the music. Later, bass player Dennis Coles and vocalist Carlita Whitehead joined the team.

Registration is suggested, but not required. To register, visit library.chesterfield.gov. For a full list of Chesterfield County’s Black History Month events, visit chesterfield.gov.
