A healthy crowd gathered Thursday to officially mark the opening of Morgan Keegan’s new Chester Village Green branch.
“We’ve been here about a month,” Vice President Chris Sovine said before Thursday’s ribbon cutting ceremony. “This idea really started about two years ago, to really open a Main Street office again.”
Most brokerage businesses operate out of high rises now, she said, and they’re not as accessible to people as they once were. Before moving to the Chester office, located at 3712 Festival Park Plaza, Sovine’s office was in downtown Richmond. Now, she said, she works a couple blocks from where she lives.
The new office isn’t “really, really big,” but it’s not meant to be, she said.
Ann Morris-Hogshead, senior vice president of Regions, Morgan Keegan’s parent company, said she thought it was “wonderful” that the company was expanding into areas to make it more convenient for customers to visit. Especially for older customers, it can be inconvenient to travel into a city’s downtown, she said.
“We all go where our clients need us to go,” she said. “What a great area.”
Sean Eichert was on hand representing both the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce and Plus Management, the company that manages the Village Green. Though opening a business or a new branch is tough in the current economic climate, the chamber has celebrated as least one opening a month, he said.
“We really do get behind our businesses and give as much support as possible,” Eichert said.
