James River Entertainment (JRE) announced on Monday that the concert sponsor would no longer use Innsbrook as its major venue. Pocahontas Park, at which JRE partnered to book “Pocahontas Live” will be one of the JRE’s larger concert venues beginning on May 23.
In 2012, JRE partnered with the Virginia Museum of Radio Entertainment to present entertainment at “Pocahontas Live” in Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield. The debut season of “Pocahontas Live” included Dark Star Orchestra, Foreigner and the First Annual Hops & Harvest Festival featuring The Yardbirds. In 2013, the “Pocahontas Live” series will be greatly expanded. The series will kick off on Thursday, May 23, with country superstar Justin Moore. After a 10-year run producing the “Innsbrook After Hours” concert series, Brad Wells and Laurin Willis of JRE have decided not to renew their commitment to the annual
Innsbrook concert event. “Unfortunately, there were differing visions between the Innsbrook Foundation and JRE regarding the direction of Innsbrook After Hours.” said Wells.
“From our point of view, we are simply changing venues,” added Willis. “As co-owners of the historic National Theater in Richmond, we remain dedicated to promoting hundreds of indoor concerts each year. With the creation of ‘Pocahontas Live’ in Chesterfield and ‘Virginia Crossroads Live’ in Crewe in 2012, our commitment to the central and southside Virginia outdoor music scene remains intact.”
“We want to thank everybody who has supported our efforts at Innsbrook After Hours,” said Willis. “While the venues may have changed, our commitment to bringing world-class music to the Richmond area remains the same.”
