The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors and Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a dedication ceremony to mark the opening of two new synthetic turf fields at Mary B. Stratton Park this Friday. The Stratton Park fields, adjacent to Ukrop Park Ridgedale Parkway off Iron Bridge Road near Chippenham Parkway, is significant in that it will allow for cosponsored league soccer, football, lacrosse and field hockey play throughout the year, and will greatly enhance opportunities for sports tourism in Chesterfield County. Ukrop Park’s large parking area will allow the facility to be used for larger events and tournaments, including The Ultimate Cup, which will hold Girls’ and Boys’ weekend tournaments this year, Feb. 23-24 and March 2-3.
Speakers at Friday’s dedication will include James Holland, Chesterfield County supervisor; Jay Stegmaier, Chesterfield County administrator; Ron Maxey, PRAC Midlothian district representative; Jon Lugbill, Sports Backers executive director; and Mike Golden, Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation director.
