In a magical kingdom fathoms below, a beautiful young mermaid longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production of The Little Mermaid, this show features the hit songs “Part of Your World,” “She’s in Love,” and the Oscar-winning “Under the Sea.”

“This production was just released by Music Theatre International and we snatched it up immediately,” said Martha Stanley, drama club sponsor and theater teacher at Elizabeth Davis Middle School and director of the production.

Stanley is directing 64 middle school students with the help of parents and 10 returning students from Thomas Dale High School in this classic story of the mermaid Ariel, who thinks life is so much better up on land. The large ensemble supporting the story as Sailors/Cooks, Princesses, and Sea and Lagoon Creatures invite you to watch Ariel (Jada Hill) and her faithful friend Flounder (Savannah Lear) happily discover human stuff with their friends Scuttle (Tatyana Magee) and the Gulls (Lauren Pelzner, Ashleigh Staneart, Claudia Ward) and the Gulls Ensemble (Erin Baker, Madyson Frye, Elizabeth Hyatt, Elizabeth Lovato, Bryan Sanchez and Morgan Whittle). In the meantime, King Triton (Devlyn Rice), his trusty crab Sebastian (Guru Bhutta), and Ariel’s sisters (Diana Montalvo, Alexandria Ahwee-Marrah, Faith Jackson, Shannon Boerner, Elizabeth Skaggs, Abbigail Szach) can’t quite figure out what to do with her. In her thirst for more knowledge about a different life, Ariel gets herself entangled with the Sea Witch, Ursula (Mary Shannon Parker), and her evil eels (Alicia Barnett, Abigail Roscher) and trades her voice to be human. She is washed to shore with her new human legs and is found by the handsome Prince Eric (Blaine Middleton), who takes her to his castle where she has to save Sebastian from Chef Louise (Aaron Kaboni) and her cooks. Ariel and Prince Eric fall in love, of course, and well…you know the rest.

Curtain time is 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 with advance ticket sales of $3 and $4 day of show; Thursday, and Friday, March 7 and 8 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 9 at 3 p.m.  Admission is for the evening and Saturday show is $5 advance and $6 day of show.

“I am so excited to do this production, as many others,” said Stanley.  “I’ve loved the movie since it was released over 20 years ago.”  Stanley and the cast are dedicating the production to Jonny Maltempi, who died in February. Maltempi devoted four years of hard work and dedication to the theatre departments of Chester Middle School and Davis Middle School.
