Lady Skyhawks fall in first round of State

As the only team to advance from the Village News coverage area to the state tournament, the L.C. Bird Girls’ basketball team earned a first round match-up with tournament favorite Princess Anne at Old Dominion University.
The Central Region runner-ups fought hard the whole way but fell to Princess Anne 50-41. The Skyhawks finished their season at 21-8. Taja Cole, who led the way for Bird most of the season, had 22 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
Still a young team with good postseason experience, Bird has much to build on for 2013-2014.
