The Next Level: Cunningham, Green, Walker

Torie Cunningham, Track

Sophomore at Norfolk State
Cunningham got off to a blazing start in her running career for Norfolk State and hasn’t looked back. On February 7 she was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Co-Track Runner of the Week. (Along with Matoaca track alum Jamarian Bates). The sophomore won the 200 meters (25.38) and placed second in the 60 meters (7.64) at the Gene Anderson Invitational held at the University of North Carolina. At Meadowbrook, she lettered four years in both track and basketball winning the Central Region title in both the 100- and 200-meter dash as a senior.

Michael Green, Baseball
Thomas Dale High School
Senior at UNC-Charlotte
Mostly a reserve outfielder and pinch-hitter, his first three seasons at UNC Charlotte, Green has earned a starting role and hits lead off for the 49ers this season. The speedy senior is hitting .278 on the season with 10 stolen bases in 12 attempts. The 49ers as of press time have played to a 14-5 record and opened Atlantic 10 play this past weekend against the Richmond Spiders in Green’s senior homecoming.

Logan Walker, Baseball
Matoaca High School
Junior at Bowling Green State
After a great career at Matoaca where he hit over .400 for the final three years of his high school career, Walker ascended to the next level playing for the Falcons. The infielder is the Falcons starting shortstop this year, and as of press time is currently hitting .286 on the season. As a sophomore, Walker had 10 multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games. The exercise science major was named All-Central District first team in high school in 2008 and 2009 and received all-academic honors in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
