Music students at the Specialty Center for the Arts at Thomas Dale High School have garnered top honors by being selected for All-State music ensembles. Top musicians in each of Virginia’s 16 music districts compete by audition for seats in the All-Virginia Band, All-Virginia Chorus and All-Virginia Orchestra. The auditions are extremely competitive with thousands of music students across the state vying for the highest honor a high school musician can earn.
Students who won seats in the All-Virginia Band are Bethany Frelier (flute), Jason Garland (trombone) and Jacob Courington (string bass). Carlo Tuason (violin), Chris Reilly (viola) and Christian Diaz (violin) were selected for All-Virgina Orchestra. Vocalists Katie Bayer, Brittny Stowers, Zac Holton and Jeremy Moore were selected for the All-Virginia Chorus.
Students earning alternate spots were Tony Cavanaugh, Robbie Croson, J’Lon Wright, Isaiah Shaw, Emma White, Cori Fischer, Madison Frank and Rachel Keene. Vocalists earning top alternate spots are Carlo Tuason, Andrew Ray, Evan Sweeney and Kharee Wicker.
The All-Virginia Band and Orchestra concert will be held April 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Harrisonburg High School. The All-Virginia Chorus concert will be at Hanover High School on April 27.
