Chesterfield police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 3900 block of Windcry Drive at about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 13.
At about 1:15 p.m. Thursday, police were called to John Randolph Medical Center for a report of a 13-year-old female with a gunshot wound to her leg.
Investigators determined that the victim was at a residence in the 3900 block of Windcry Drive when a 13-year-old male displayed a handgun. While showing the firearm to the other juveniles, the suspect fired a single shot, which struck the victim. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening.
At this point, police said, it appears the shooting was accidental. The suspect has been arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm, discharging a weapon within a residence and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
Police continue to investigate how the suspect came into possession of the firearm used in the shooting. It does not appear the weapon was owned by the parents of either the suspect or the victim.
