Keep Virginia Beautiful Awards $500 Grant to Elizabeth Davis Middle School

Keep Virginia Beautiful (KVB) is awarded “30 Grants In 30 Days” during June, 2013. Elizabeth Davis Middle School of Chester, was awarded a $500 grant in the Beautification Category. The KVB grant program focuses greater resources and attention on organizations and individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education.

Elizabeth Davis Middle School is a very young school that would like to plant some roots. Their past garden projects have not done well and after some investigating they discovered that poor soil quality throughout the school property hinders their efforts. They have requested a grant to nourish their garden’s soil and infiltrate it with nutrients as well as find its pH balance. Additionally, they plan to use funding to purchase flowers and vegetables for a late summer planting and a fall harvest.
