Body of driver recovered from creek

The body of a man who fled a traffic checkpoint on Iron Bridge Road at Burnt Oak Drive on July 3, has been   recovered from Falling Creek behind Ivy Walk Apartments. He has been identified as Michael S. Jones, 58, of Richmond. At about 12:30 a.m. A vehicle occupied by Jones and Norman A. Wills, 48, came through the checkpoint. After determining that the driver did not have a license, police asked him to pull the vehicle onto the side of the road.

When the officer returned to her vehicle, the suspect vehicle fled into Ivy Walk Apartments. Police located the suspect vehicle abandoned at the back of the complex, and soon heard a man yelling for help. Officers found Wills in Falling Creek. Chesterfield Fire and EMS personnel pulled Wills, who was the passenger in the suspect vehicle, from the water.

Wills, of Richmond, was arrested and charged with fleeing from a law enforcement officer and possession of a controlled substance.

Chesterfield County Fire Department Dive Team recovered the body of the driver, Jones, from Falling Creek.

Police continue their investigation into this incident.
