The Next Level: Doggett, Clark, Robertson

RODERICK DOGGETT
Football, Cornerback
Thomas Dale High School
Junior at Averett University
Doggett was a starting cornerback on the 2009 Division 6A State Champions and plays his college football as an Averett University Cougar. This season he has 12 tackles, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a defensed pass. Also used on offense occasionally, Doggett hauled in a 48-yard reception against North Carolina Wesleyan on September 28. The junior has rebounded from missing the 2012 season due to injury, but the Cougars have experienced growing pains in 2013, falling to 1-5 on the season after a loss to Methodist 41-33 last Saturday. Doggett is majoring in physical education.

GRIFFIN CLARK
Golf
Thomas Dale High School
Freshman at John Logan College
Clark goes down as one of the best golfers in Thomas Dale history, and he has continued his development at John Logan College at the next level. As a Knight, Clark was three-time Central District Player of the Year, and placed T-7th in the state as a sophomore, T-1st in the state as a junior and T-15th in the state as a senior. The team enjoyed much success as well, taking home two regular season Central District championships and four Central District tournament championships while Clark was at Dale. John Logan is one of the top golf programs in the nation, and Clark’s impact was definitely felt as the Skyhawks finished third in the nation according to their homepage.

PAUL ROBERTSON
Football, Running Back
L.C. Bird High School
Freshman at Hampton University
The reigning state player of the year was perhaps the biggest star on Bird’s 2012 Division 6A State Champions made an immediate impact with the Hampton Pirates, winning their starting job out of training camp. However, in the first half of the first game, Robertson fell victim to a hairline fracture in his ankle after a lineman fell on his leg. Robertson has been limited to eight carries for just 22 yards in 2013, but is on the comeback trail from his injury. In a storybook senior season, he rushed for 2,935 yards (1,144 in the playoffs), Robertson also rushed for an amazing 426 yards and five touchdowns in the 2012 state semi-finals against Oakton.
