Matoaca High School’s Third Annual Feather the Turkey contest, sponsored by the Future Business Leaders of America, ended on November 22 surpassing their goal by $1,000. Over the past three years the FBLA has sponsored the “Feather the Turkey” fundraiser to raise money for VA FBLA’s State Service Project-Project ASK (Association for the Support of Kids with Cancer) which benefits children right here in Richmond, Va. at Massey Cancer Center.
All first period classes competed to see who could raise the most money in just one week and for every 25 cents they donated, they got a feather to add to their class turkey. Ms. Rebecca McCarter’s first period raised the most money, $400.75. The class was treated to a delicious Panera breakfast courtesy of Matoaca FBLA November 25. Other honorable mentions include: Mr. Andrew Austen’s class: $353; Mrs. Stacy Bradshaw’s class: $338.75; Ms. Kristen Vinson’s class: $303.50; Mr. Nathan Hoback’s class: $215.75. The club will proudly be sending in a check in the amount of $2,800 to ProjectASK in Memory of our “Fallen Matoaca Warriors.”
