Annual Christmas tree lighting brings Santa to town

Girl Scouts from the Chester Service Unit gathered last Tuesday evening at the Chester gazebo singing Christmas carols and hoping for a glimpse of Santa Claus. It was the annual Christmas tree lighting at the gazebo sponsored by Girl Scout troops 507 and 3709.

The lights came on and carols were sung, soon near the end of “Here Comes Santa Claus,” the Scouts turned their heads and to their delight Santa was in sight. Smiles and hugs from Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors, as well as their brothers and puppies in tow, all enjoyed the company of Santa.

Eight-year-old Zachary Corbin was curious of Santa’s beard and had several questions to ask him.  He wanted to know if Santa was friends with the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy and how he was able to get all the presents down the chimney.  On his wish list was a new bike, as well as a cat and a dog.

It was the 16th year for the lighting ceremony which began at the former library on Harrowgate Road and moved to the gazebo when the library moved.
