Thomas Dale continued its winning ways by sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ district track titles in last week’s meet at Prince George. Quintin Fulghum was named the meet’s top performer in sweeping the long and triple jumps, as well as the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. Teammates Sam Hartman (shot), Scott Garton (1,600 meter), Byron Robinson (400 meter) and Chris Martin (3,200 meter) also took home gold medals. On the girls’ side, Sarah Fulghum won all three jumps, while teammate Kristen Greene took both throwing events to lead the lady Knights.
Other area first-place winners included Meadowbrook’s Torie Cunningham, who blazed to victory in the 100 meter and 200 meter; Garrett Tyler, who remains impressive in the high jump; and DuShaun Thompson, who won the discus by an impressive margin. Matoaca’s Jameal Harris took the 300 hurdles after just missing out in the 110’s.
In Dominion District action, Jake Zimmermann led Bird with an impressive showing in the 800 meter. He also anchored the victorious Bird team in the 3,200 meter relay. Tariq Alkebu-Lan won the high jump, Jeremy Jones won the triple jump, Ayanna Tweedy took the shot, Shacoria Winston sprinted to victory in the 100 meter and Faith Sykes led the way in the 400 meter.
The Central Region Championships will be contested today and tomorrow at Sports Backers Stadium.
