Area mourns passing of former coach Gabe Hicks

Matoaca resident Gabe Hicks passed away last Friday at the age of 69. Hicks gained notoriety as a football coach at both Midlothian and Matoaca high schools. A native of Caroline County, Hicks graduated from Lynchburg College and received his master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. He taught and coached in Chesterfield for 36 years. Hicks was seen as a friend and mentor to many now coaching in Chesterfield.
