School Board donates classroom trailer to local non-profit for after school program

Cornerstone Revitalization Center, Inc. (CRC) celebrated the grand opening of their new Community Center in Shady Hill Trailer Park last month.  The Chesterfield County School Board donated a classroom trailer which has been converted into the Community Center.  In addition CRC was able to solicit funding of a computer lab to serve its after-school program that will meet in the new facility.

School Board members Carrie Coyner and David Wyman, who were instrumental in securing the donation of this facility, were in attendance and participated in the dedication of the new Community Center.  Also in attendance was Bessie Cooper, Principal of Bensley Elementary, and Shawn Franco, Pastor of Cornerstone Assembly of God.

Shady Hill Trailer Park and the immediate surrounding area, is the most impoverished community in Chesterfield County.  CRC has been committed to serving this at-risk community since it first rented a trailer in the community in 2007.  The Community Center is a demonstration of CRC’s continued commitment to this area and will enable us to further expand our services and programs.

The opening of the Computer Lab represents a growing partnership with Bensley Elementary to focus on remedial math and reading skills.  Utilizing a web-based program, students will receive instructions and exercises custom-oriented to their skill level.  Teachers and mentors will be able to share critical data for a collaborative approach to education in at-risk communities.
