Jacob Johnson sets new statewide swimming record in backstroke

It would be a fair assessment to say that Thomas Dale freshman Jacob Johnson can swim like a fish.

At the SC Age Group Championship meet on March 13-16, Johnson broke the Virginia state record in the age group of 13-14 backstroke with a time of 51.90 seconds. At that same meet, he set a meet record in the 200 back stroke and was a part of a relay team that set the meet record for the 200 medley relay.

Back in December at the Tom Dolan meet in Maryland, he was a part of teams in the 200, 400 and 800m free relays that set state records in addition to the 200 and 400m medley relays.

Johnson, a talented swimmer, hopes to join fellow Dale swimmer Meredith Vey in the college ranks. Vey will be swimming at South Carolina next year.
