Local teen brings international experience to swim team

Chester native Michael Covert returned home from his first international swimming experience in Ireland ready to teach Quest swim team the power of team work, according to information from head coach Dudley Duncan.

Michael, 17, placed second in the 200 meter backstroke and was chosen as a member of the 2010 NCSA All American Swim Team.

“This experience raised my level of consciousness and taught me the power of team work,” Covert says. “As an example of teamwork, each member of our team was assigned a number, one to 26, which was a great bonding experience, but then I saw how a simple concept made a difference in the pool. A team member was struggling in the last part of his race, but he did not want to let the team down, so he counted one to 26 to help him finish the race. He fought through a tough race for the team – not himself – and it brought our team even closer. It was amazing.”

Michael is a member of Quest swim team, formerly SwimQuest, located at 6800 Deer Run Drive, off Hull Street in Midlothian. Quest swim team will be relocating to the new SportsQuest Aquatic center when it is complete.
