Dale volleyball standouts commit
Will Ragland, the all-time single season record holder for kills in Thomas Dale history will attend Division III Carthage College in Wisconsin. Carthage was nationally ranked at No. 4 and lost in the final four this past year. Ragland had an outstanding senior year for the 13-7 Knights amassing 418 kills, 92 digs, 62 blocks and 36 assists. The Knights’ leader was the Village News Boys Volleyball Player of the Year.
Dale’s 6-7 middle hitter Johnny Kimenhour also committed to college this week to Division III Stevenson College in Baltimore, Maryland. Like Carthage, Stevenson is a successful program as they were the runner-ups in the ECAC Division III men’s volleyball championship. Kimenhour totaled 188 kills and 76 blocks for the Knights in 2013 and was a member of the All-Conference 3 second team. Stevenson is the alma mater of Thomas Dale head volleyball coach Josh Forbes.
Six Monarch “Football” Players ascend to next level
Linebacker Kane Smith (5-8, 185 pounds) will play college football for the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets. The 2013 team captain is an International Baccalaureate student at Meadowbrook and a member of the National Honor Society.
Cameron Artis, a 6-3 215 pound defensive end committed to play college football at UVA-Wise, joining former Monarch running back Brandon McShine on the Cavaliers roster. An honor roll student and two year starter, Artis was a mentor in Meadowbrook’s success program. Artis was a quick defensive end on a big line for the Monarchs in 2013.
Terrelle “Pee Wee” Whitaker who was named VHSL All-State All-Purpose signed to play at Lackawanna Community College in Scranton, Pa. Whitaker was a two-year starter for the Monarchs and his speed and athleticism made him a dynamic player at both wide receiver and kick/punt returner. The future Falcon was the primary target of both quarterbacks he played with- Gerard Johnson and Talik Mann.
Cornelius “Too Tall” Tyler, a 6-3 260 pound defensive lineman will attend Fork Union Military Academy next fall, where Morgan Moses started his post-football college career. Tyler was a four year starter at Meadowbrook and a first team All-5A South Region and All-Conference 12 honoree.
Originally attending Georgia Military, 2012 Meadowbrook graduate Jaquante Saunders, a 6-4 300 pound offensive lineman signed with Nassau Community College (Hampstead, NY) last week. Saunders was an all-district performer in both football and basketball. At Nassau, he will join former Bird running back Yahkee Johnson and class of 2014 Dale graduate/lineman Raun Hall.
Rudy Argueta, the leader of the Monarch’s soccer team signed to play at Montgomery Community College in Maryland. As of press time, the Monarchs are 6-2-1 and have played well in Conference 12. Argueta, a middle defender scored a goal against Thomas Dale this year and also plays for the Richmond Strikers.
