The Southside Swim League Championship Meet was held last weekend at Battlefield Park and River’s Bend came up just short in its efforts to derail the perennial champions from The Swim and Yacht Club in Colonial Heights.
Stoney Glen finished a strong fifth, but may have featured the meet’s outstanding swimmer in Evan Nicely, who established two new league records in the 15-16 year old age division. Nicely swam a 32.67 in the 50 meter breast and then dominated the 100 meter with a blistering 1:02.66. Nicely also serves as an assistant coach for Stoney Glen.
The two local teams had 57 swimmers earn gold medals in the meet, which was contested under perfect conditions. Nicely led the way, but was joined by multiple winning teammates, including Megan Reed, Nicholas Skoff and Leianna Stafflinger. J.T. Morris was a triple winner for River’s Bend, while Sonya Feeser and Alyssa Kizler were double winners.
Other champions for River’s Bend included Ellen Brown, Caroline DiMarino, Kayla Echols, Christopher Eliades, Austin Feeser, Wesley Graves, William Graves, Evan Gwaltney, Sabreen Hamad, Alec Harrison, Margaret Hilburt, William Howard, Matthew James, Rahil Kabrawala, John Kanu, Nancy Kanu, Emelie Keene, Will Keene, Alexander Kizler, James Kizler, Blakely Koob, Madison Lenz, Mallory Lenz, Joe Lupacchino, Samantha Nordyke, Christopher Pierce, Savanneh Salmon, Lauren Sherrill, Garrett Simard, Andrea Stegman and David Van Gundy.
