Chesterfield’s Mustang entry falls in championship round in Texas

A group of 15 area 9- and 10-year-olds and their families had the experience of a lifetime recently as the baseball team played in the 2010 Mustang World Series near Dallas.

The Chesterfield entry got off to a fabulous start, defeating the host team from Irving by a score of 20-5.  They followed that up with an 11-9 victory over Margate, Fla.  Chesterfield completed pool play by falling to Caguas, Puerto Rico.

The two victories in pool play allowed Chesterfield to advance to the championship round, where the team suffered a heartbreaking 6-4 loss to eventual champion William S. Hart of Santa Clara, Calif.

While in Irving, the Chesterfield team was treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium.

Matoaca players on the team include Brandon Pond, Ryan Smith and Kyle Williams.  Noah Yates and Chase Campbell also have connections in the Meadowbrook/Beulah communities.
