Thomas Dale High School ‘08
Deanna Smith is a 2008 Thomas Dale graduate who captained the school’s state qualifying Field Hockey team. As a junior at Lynchburg, she has stepped into the starting line-up for the Hornets. In the early going, Deanna has seven shots (five on goal), a goal and an assist to lead the ODAC school to a 3-2 record. On Oct. 12, Deanna will have a homecoming of sorts as the Hornets will visit Randolph-Macon.

Matoaca High School ‘08
Kris Burd has elevated himself to the “go to guy” in UVA’s passing attack this season. Kris leads the Cavs with 10 catches and 142 yards over the first two games. Kris recently had three catches in the LA Coliseum in a close loss to national power UCLA. His seven catches in the home opener against Richmond led the squad. The multi-sport star at Matoaca has touchdown catches in each of the first two contests. Under first-year coach Mike London, look for UVA and Kris Burd to have outstanding seasons.

L.C. Bird High School ‘02
The fourth-year pro continues to impress, having his best game as a pro last week. Snelling ran for 129 yards on 24 carries and had 57 receiving yards as the Falcons dismantled the Arizona Cardinals 41-7. Snelling found the end zone three times. A back-up for the Falcons, the 5-foot, 11-inch, 223-pound running back has shown a knack for excelling when pressed into action. The Falcons are 1-1 on the young season. Snelling was an all-state performer at Bird, rushing for over 3,300 yards in his career with the Skyhawks.
