Tech Center students give back

Students in dental assisting classes at the Chesterfield Technical Center volunteered in November at a dental clinic at Victoria Elementary School in Lunenburg County, according to information from Chesterfield County Public Schools. Along with teachers Regena Barthelemy and Melinda Gullotti, 72 Chesterfield students helped Dr. Bob Bigelow provide free cleanings and fluoride treatments to 512 students.

One Chesterfield student, Karina Ortiz-Suarez, attended Victoria Elementary School after moving to the United States from Puerto Rico. The school’s guidance counselor placed Karina in gifted classes, which later led to her taking Advanced Placement classes at Cosby High.

“It was such a dream come true when Mrs. Gullotti told me that my first patient contact would be to go to Lunenburg and give back to the children of Victoria Elementary where I first started. … This is an experience I will never forget,” Karina said.
