Chester native graduates from Coast Guard Academy

Cadet First Class Graham S. Sherman of Chester is one of 229 cadets that graduated May 25 from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.

During commencement exercises, graduates of the Class of 2011 received their commission as ensigns in the U.S. Coast Guard from President Barack Obama.

A 2007 graduate of Thomas Dale High School, Graham is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter S. Sherman of Chester.

Graham’s first tour of duty will be aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Spencer.

“It is the most exciting time in my life to date.” he said. “I am extremely proud of my classmates and myself for getting each other through the most challenging years of our lives, and I couldn’t be more honored to graduate from such a prestigious and historical institution. Go Bears,” said Sherman.
