Wednesday storm cut swath across Chester

Last Wednesday, July 6 at about 3 p.m., a storm producing high winds and extensive rain cut across Chesterfield. Extraordinary damage due to straight-line winds in soaked soil brought down trees, which took down power lines and damaged vehicles and buildings. According to Theweatherobserver.com, 2.98 inches of rain in about a 90 minute period. The National Weather Service storm survey determined the damage was consistent with straight line winds estimated between 80 and 90 mph. The former MOD Floors building at the Bermuda Crossroad Shopping Center suffered damage including a collapsed wall. Power in some areas was out for 24-hours.
