Michael Jackson announces candidacy for School Board

Michael Jackson will vie for a spot on Nov. 8 for the Dale District seat on Chesterfield County School Board. The husband and father of two children described himself and his campaign as being:

  • Student focused
  • Open and accessible to the community
  • Attentive to educational needs
  • Result oriented

“Our community needs a voice on the school board that will stand up for the children in the Dale District,” he said. “I want to ensure our children have the best education our schools can offer, one that will prepare them for higher education or the workforce after high school. Our children need continued access to the latest technology, software, online curriculum as well as vocational courses. I know I can be that voice for the Dale District.”

Jackson currently serves as a fiscal healthcare consultant for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in which he ensures accessible quality healthcare to people who have been diagnosed with HIV or those who are living with AIDS. In addition to his role, Jackson provides technical assistance to service providers and recipients of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program that provide HIV-related services to those who do not have sufficient health care coverage or financial resources for coping with HIV disease.

If elected to the Chesterfield County School Board, Jackson hopes to utilize his fiscal expertise as an accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner. Michael earned his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Central University in Accounting. For nearly 20 years, Jackson’s professional background includes accounting, finance and public administration. In 2005, he spent three years working for the city of Richmond as a senior assistant chief administrative officer, senior fiscal analyst and business management officer.

His training and credentials include Leadership Metro Richmond, class of 2009 and the Certified Planning Commissioner training sponsored by the Citizens Planning Education Association of Virginia.

When it comes to educating children in the Dale District, Jackson believes in preparing the next generation to become the future leaders of the community.

“A quality education for today’s students is the greatest equalizer we can provide our future leaders to compete and excel in global market,” Jackson said. “If we are not properly training our replacements, we are doing our community a disservice. I am determined to prepare today’s learners for tomorrow challenges.”

Saw the Jackson mailer re

Saw the Jackson mailer re high school graduation rates. The Dale high schools, Bird and Meadowbrook, are the worst in the county, but they also have had the best football teams for several years. What will Jackson do to take their emphasis off football and put it on academics where it belongs? How does a school board member impact graduation rates anyway?
