Authorities are still investigating a house fire that left one child dead at a single-family home in the 5800 block of Gunsight Terrace on March 8, Chesterfield County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Lt. Jason Elmore said Monday.
The cause remains undetermined but appears to be accidental, a March 9 county press release says.
The Chesterfield County Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the fire on March 8 at 7:05 p.m., the release says. Upon arrival, fire crews were notified that a child was in the house. The child was pulled from the house by fire crews and was pronounced dead at CJW Medical Center, Chippenham Hospital. The child’s identity is not being released until a positive identification has been determined by the medical examiner.
One adult was transported to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and remains hospitalized in stable condition, the release says. One firefighter was transported to Chippenham Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has been treated and released.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in about 25 minutes, the release says. The home sustained moderate damage.
