As many as 88 tires were slashed on a total of 22 vehicles in the Chester Village Green community on the morning of Nov. 20. The perpetrators are still unknown. Members of the tight neighborhood put up a page on Facebook called “To catch a vandal” hoping to do just that; send a message to capture the perpetrators who were called cowards on the page.
Village Green resident Mike Sawyer has been behind the effort to catch the vandals and said the neighborhood is offering five video games for anyone who comes forward and helps find the culprits who did over $20,000 in damage according to the owner of Chesterfield Automotive Solutions on Iron Bridge Road.
“If I were to give you an educated guess, I would say they’re under 21,” Sawyer said. “Parents need to have a chat with their kids and ask them if they know anything about it. But if they were real men, they would turn themselves in.”
Sawyer offered an anecdote about an older woman in the neighborhood who got a knock on her door that night by the police telling her that some marauders had slashed her tires. Her son was not home and she was left in the house all alone. “Can you imagine how she must have felt the rest of the night?” he said.
The Facebook page indicated that “an organized group of vandals slashed all four tires on 22 vehicles. If you have seen or heard anything, please call 748-0660 and leave an anonymous tip. There is a reward being offered for any information leading to the arrest of these vandals. Talk to your friends and see if there are any high school or middle school students that may know something.”
Chesterfield County police are investigating the extensive vandalism after a citizen contacted the police after they discovered that several vehicles in the area had their tires slashed. Officers responded to the area and located vehicles with multiple slashed tires.
The Chester area has been plagued with several similar incidents over the past couple of weeks, according to a police report. Police ask for your help in identifying the suspect(s) in this matter.
Anyone with information should contact the Chesterfield County Police Department at 748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 748-0660 or text the code tip 699 with the tip and send to 274637 (CRIMES).
