Man charged in hit and run incident near dangerous intersection

At about 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, near the intersection of Harrowgate and West Hundred roads, two male children, ages 10 and 11, were riding a bike and were about to turn right onto West Hundred Road from a parking lot. A truck that was making a right turn onto West Hundred Road from Harrowgate struck the bicycle. According to reports, ten year old Logan Dudley, a Curtis Elementary School student was transported to Chippenham Hospital suffering from a fractured knee. The 11 year old was not injured. The truck continued driving, and the police investigation continues.

A James M. Kidd, 59, of Barberry Court in Enon was arrested and charged with hit and run - personal injury, attended property, in relation to the incident.

The intersection near where the young boy was hit has a traffic count of over 26,000 vehicles per day. Area residents who have expressed concern over safety issues there have requested upgrades to the intersection and bicycle lanes on West Hundred Road. The number of vehicles traveling on West Hundred Road in the same vicinity has concerned a number of residents in the Village Green development who have been in opposition of an electronic sign being proposed within 100 feet of the hit and run.
