Oh happy days

As of today the children only have one month and one day until school lets out for the summer. I for one cannot wait. This will be the first summer that we actually get to spend time together as a family. No longer working a full-time job, I have totally dedicated every moment not spent working to my children and shockingly enough, I love it.

The difference in our household is immeasurable. The peace, joy and utter happiness that surrounds our little family fills me to the brim and I thank God everyday that we were given the choices that I once thought were roadblocks, and now, have given me the opportunity to spend more time with my family. I was completely devastated when I found out that our Meme was retiring, knowing that there was no way that we could afford to have two children in child care full-time, during the school year. That would be tough enough, but the thought of the impending summers were enough to send me into a cold sweat. As you all remember, after many nights with a calculator at the kitchen table, the most wonderful man on earth and I decided that I would quit my full-time job, put the precious flower in preschool a few days a week, I would work part- time doing something I love and we would be completely broke.

Never did I expect being broke would feel so wonderful. I love putting my little guy on the bus everyday and getting him off of the bus. I love the two days during the week when I get to hang out with my sweet little girl and do Mommy things. I love being able to work in my community and get to know those folks who are courageous enough to open and run their own businesses.  I love Chester, I love my family and I love my life and I never thought that a year ago we could have made it on a salary and a half. Goes to show you we really don’t always know everything.

This summer is going to be filled with sunshine, laughter, sprinklers, ice cream cones and days with Mommy around. Daddy gets home much earlier than he used to, thanks to not having to stop by the babysitter’s and pick up the kiddos.  Grilling out and hanging with our friends on a warm summer night while all of the children run until they are exhausted, it doesn’t get much better than that. I have made more friends in Chester now that I don’t work in Richmond, my Mommy friends are my lifeline and I love them all dearly. That’s another perk, one that I didn’t know I was missing out on when I was working 14 miles up I-95 everyday.  Relationships all need time to be nurtured and I now have that time to give and I couldn’t be more thankful.

One month and one day, let the countdown begin. The fever is in the air for the lazy days of summer to begin. This exceptionally warm spring hasn’t helped matters either. We already all have great tans going.  Between our wonderful babysitter, who gets to come hang out a few times a week to the super cool inflatable pool in the backyard, the kids are beyond excited to get this summer in full swing, and so am I.
