Freightliner and 41,000 pounds of copper stolen

Copper and metal thefts have been in the news before, but one recent theft was a bit unusual. The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program wants to help solve the case.

Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, May 28, a woman told police, her 1997 Freightliner truck and attached trailer were stolen from the Pilot Travel Center, 2126 Ruffin Mill Rd. At the time of the theft, the driver was hauling about 41,000 pounds of copper sheeting destined for Connecticut.

The truck is described as a white, 1997 Freightliner with a sleeper cab. It had the company logo, A&M Transport, in royal-blue lettering on the driver’s side.

A photo of a similar truck can be seen at www.crimesolvers.net. From the main page, simply select the “Crime of the Week” link.
