Local junior golfers heading to Pebble Beach

Tyler Broach and Abigail Portyata, golfers who have honed their skills at First Tee of Chesterfield, will be headed for amateur competition at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California on July 6-8.

Broach, age 16, attends Motoaca High School and has been playing golf for five years. He has a USGA handicap of 5 and has been an active member of The First Tee for six years.

Portyata, age 16, attends Clover Hill High School and has been playing golf for eight years.  She has a handicap of 3.5 and has been an active member of The First Tee for seven years.

They were selected by a national panel of judges that evaluates participants’ playing ability and comprehension of the life skills and character education learned through their involvement with The First Tee. More than 180 applications were submitted. Overall, 81 juniors, ages 15-18 will be teamed with 81 Champion Tour players and 162 amateurs as they compete for the title at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course.
