Meadowbrook advanced to the regional semi-finals via victories over Huguenot and Hermitage, to face the Dominion District regular season champions in the Monacan Chiefs. The first trip this deep into the postseason for the Monarchs under third year head coach Danny Connor, the team had started slowly this season and played well throughout the second half.
Expectations for the L.C. Bird Skyhawks girls basketball team this season were high. Thus far, they have matched- and exceeded many expectations. On Friday, they were able to do what no other Bird girls basketball team has done before- and bring home back to back Dominion District tournament championships.
The Lady Monarchs are no stranger to making runs into the postseason. In fact, every year since 2008, when they won the Central District tournament, they have appeared in the final. This year their opponent would be Prince George, and Meadowbrook jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Royals 58-40 in the championship game Friday night.
Thomas Dale alum and former softball standout Lacey Waldrop signed with Florida State last year, and in her freshman season, she’s off to a historic start. On February 12th, she pitched a five inning no-hitter and became the first freshman to accomplish the feat for the Seminoles since 2007.
As a whole, L.C. Bird basketball may be at it’s strongest overall point in some time. The boys, under first year Coach Troy Manns defeated Clover Hill last Friday night 68-52.
Thomas Dale high school golfer Michaela Conway has committed to Lincoln-Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. The senior chose Lincoln-Memorial over West Virginia Wesleyan University.
