If the Central District wasn’t aware of the athleticism and explosiveness of the Meadowbrook offense, take note. Though the Hopewell Blue Devils jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and tied the game at 28 early in the fourth quarter, the Monarchs dominated the fourth quarter and won their first Central District matchup of the season 56-28 over Hopewell.
Virginia’s three-time USSSA Major State Champions and No. 1 ranked team, the 14U Upper Deck Predators, traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to play against the country’s best 14U travel teams in the “Triple Crown Super 64 National Championship.”
Last season, it was Manchester that upset Bird 21-13. The loss at the time gave Manchester an upper hand in the Dominion District standings, but Bird went on to win their 12th straight Dominion District title. This season, both Manchester and Bird are viewed as favorites to contend for the title once again.
Any 12-15 year old student-athletes interested in representing Chesterfield County at the 2013 International Children’s Games should bring a parent to the 9th grade Campus of Thomas Dale High School on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
Paul Robertson rushed for 107 yards on just seven attempts and scored three touchdowns to lead Bird to a victory over George Wythe. Quarterback Terrance Ervin threw for three touchdowns, two of which went to Darius Hawkins.
When the Thomas Dale Knights and Varina Blue Devils get together, historically the match-up has been a classic battle. Coming in, many regarded this as the region’s game of the week. Dale, looking to rebound, was coming off of a tough loss at the hands of rival L.C. Bird.
