Hurler Harman signs with East Carolina

L. C. Bird’s storied athletes have continued to grow recently when 6 foot 6 inch left-handed hurler Bryce Harman signed his letter of intent to play baseball at East Carolina University (ECU) in 2013.

Skyhawks advance to State

The 2012 season had already been another banner year for a program that’s bred for success. With its second 11-0 start in school history and a punched ticket to their third straight regional final, by all accounts, Bird belonged.

The third time was a charm for the L.C. Bird Skyhawks against Hermitage in the post-season. The defending state champions came into the game against Bird with a perfect 10-0 record and a 34 game winning streak against the Central Region in tact. Bird rallied back from down 20-10 using the last eight minutes of the game to win 24-20 and advance to the regional championship to play Varina this Friday night.

Monarchs win first district title

The Meadowbrook Monarchs are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2008. This time they have their first outright Central District Championship in school history, assuring that with their 44-6 romp over Matoaca last Friday night.

Week 10: Football recap

Bird finished their season 10-0 and 8-0 in the Dominion District with a 35-0 shut out victory over the Clover Hill Cavaliers last Friday night. The win also secured the Skyhawks’ 12th straight Dominion District title and earned them the 4th seed in the Central Region playoffs.

Skyhawks soar past Knights, Ervin sets school passing record

After a closely contested game to open the season between Thomas Dale and L.C. Bird in the Battle of Chester, a game that Bird won 14-7, the two teams circled their second match-up on the calendar. Bird was able to jump out early and dominate the Knights throughout and earn their fifth straight win in the series defeating Dale by a score of 42-3 last Friday night.
