Skyhawks sweep Knights

Meeting twice in the same season for the first time in school history, the Thomas Dale Knights and the L.C. Bird Skyhawks would clash with both pride and playoff chances on the line. For Thomas Dale, they essentially wrapped up the Central district with their win over Meadowbrook last week, 21-14.

Thomas Dale beats Meadowbrook for playoff berth

Whenever the Thomas Dale Knights and the Meadowbrook Monarchs have gotten together in the past few years, the game has had a lot of meaning. Last season, Meadowbrook had to beat Thomas Dale to stay alive for a wildcard in the playoffs, and did so 20-16. In 2009, the teams met and were both undefeated in the district.

Only the fans in the Virginia State University (VSU) bleachers seemed to feel the nasty weather at last Saturday’s game in Ettrick. Their players, however, emerged from the locker room hot-blooded and ready to do some real damage on Virginia Union University.

Thomas Dale staying strong in fight for Central District title

Thomas Dale was able to keep pace in the Central District last Friday, as they defeated the Prince George Royals 39-7 in Central District action. The Royals were coming off a 60-7 beating by Meadowbrook and had some looks, but the Knights were able to grind it out and got two key interceptions by safety Desmond Frye in route to a win on homecoming weekend.

Bird’s run game tramples Midlo, Johnson breaks record

With the Dominion District standings log-jammed at the top, winning is essential for the L.C. Bird Skyhawks game in and game out. At the end of play Friday, four teams are tied with 4-1 district records heading into the last four weeks of the season.
