The Village News is pleased to announce 15 high school athletes as its Athletes of the Year and Scholar-Athletes of the Year in each of the five fall sports.

The Thomas Dale High School junior varsity volleyball team won the Highland Springs Invitational JV Volleyball Championship (Gold Division) on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Highland Springs High School.
Until this season, Thomas Dale’s Boys’ Volleyball team had never lost a district match. That streak ended with an early season loss to a much more experienced Matoaca team.
Elizabeth Davis Middle School proved too tough for the field last Wednesday in the Southern Division Meet held at Carver Middle School. The girls’ team dominated competition, with Jeana Boersma, Dominique Grubbs, Mikayla Grubbs, Alison Jeter, Sarah Rieber, Natalie Smith and Megan Tucker all finishing in the top 15.
When Meadowbrook and Matoaca took the field Friday night, both teams were playing for a shot to remain alive for the state playoffs. It was a game that was circled on the calendar for both opponents, and it didn’t disappoint, as the Monarchs defeated the Warriors 42-28 in a barn burner.
