Local teams prepare for holiday tournament

The Thomas Dale Lady Knights have something left to prove. Last year, there were many accomplishments. They won the Times-Dispatch Invitational Tournament (TDIT), brought home the first girls’ basketball district title in school history and advanced well into the playoffs, falling just short of a regional championship against Cosby and falling in the opening round of the state tournament to Princess Anne, a Virginia Beach, Va., school.

At all cost: Local team has chance to compete at Hall of Fame tournament

This summer, a traveling youth baseball team from Chester could have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete in a tournament hosted at the Cooperstown Dreams Park in New York. Though the team lacks the financial resources to fund a bid for the tournament, its members remain more than hopeful about their chances.

Skyhawks’ regional championship slips away in final minutes of game

No doorbuster deals were required for the L.C. Bird High School Skyhawks Friday. While everyone was out shopping, they were thinking of how to beat Hermitage to advance to the Division 6 State Tournament and be crowned Regional Champions for the first time since 2005, when they beat Meadowbrook, 19-13.
