On Saturday morning, a small group of middle-aged men convened in a room adjacent to the gym at First Baptist Church of Hopewell to discuss local sports and the promising futures of young athletes. However, a handfull of these young athletes but on the win gradually unfolding in front of them.
The Meadowbrook Monarchs have had a good season thus far with a very talented squad. The squad features some of the best bigs in the area, including Delaware signee Marvin King-Davis, who averages a double-double per contest with about 21 points per game and nearly 11 rebounds.
On Thursday morning, players took their positions on the polished, wooden basketball court and, while anticipating the course of the jump ball leaving the referee’s hand, weren’t at all distracted by the lively cheering coming from the bleachers.
With another successful football season behind it, the L.C. Bird High School student body still has a lot to cheer about. Bird’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are enjoying successful campaigns as teams ease into the stretch before district tournaments kick off.

After a wonderful career at Thomas Dale, Frye has emerged as a starter for the College of Charleston in this, her freshman season. Frye ranks fourth in scoring and second in steals for the Cougars, who compete in the Southern Conference. In a recent game against Kansas State, Frye led all C of C scorers.
