Enjoy a community carnival on July 31

A Community-Wide Carnival will he held Saturday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Webber Memorial Baptist Church, located at 7800 Salem Church Road, Richmond. The event will include free hot dogs, hamburgers, soft drinks, snow cones, cotton candy and more. Family fun for all ages can be had, including horse rides, games, prizes and outside and inside activities.

Sign up for Diggin’ on History camp

For a unique summer camp experience for children, check out the week-long “Diggin’ on History” Archaeology Summer Camp. This camp for kids ages 8-12 is educational, engaging and fun. Activities will include hands-on archaeological digs and a field trip to an excavation site. Campers will learn about the proper use of tools, how to establish a site, excavation techniques, stewardship and more. This program is sponsored by the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia. There are currently openings in the session scheduled for Aug. 2-6. Camp will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Celebrate National Night Out on Aug. 3

From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, residents in neighborhoods throughout Chesterfield County and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on the outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police, according to information on the county’s website. Many neighborhoods throughout Chesterfield will host a variety of special events, such as block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities and anticrime rallies.

Join Chester UMC for Mission Sunday

Chester United Methodist Church has planned a Mission Sunday on Aug. 8.  Instead of attending a worship service, volunteers will take on various projects, such as collecting and sorting donations to the food pantry, assembling and organizing snacks for the Backpack Ministry, cleaning up along Ecoff road, performing general repairs and lawn care for assigned homes, landscaping at Pathways in Petersburg, visiting area nursing homes and supporting Branches, a Florida ministry affected by a recent fire.

HHFI summer children’s program Aug. 12-13

Emma Days, a summer children’s program sponsored each year by the Historic Hopewell Foundation, Inc. (HHFI) at Weston Plantation now has a new name. This year, the program will be known as Emma and George Days, according to information from HHFI. Emma and George Days is a two-day learning event for children ages 8 to 12.  Through activities, exploration, crafts and games, students gain an appreciation for history and life in a time long past. This year, Emma and George Days will be held on August 12-13, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost is $15 per child.
