CHESTER – At approximately 6:36 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 95 at the 67.2 mile marker north of Routes 150 and 895.

According to Trooper D. Robinson’s preliminary investigation, a 2005 Freightliner tractor hauling a trailer full of wood chips/mulch was attempting to make a lane change to the right and struck a Mazda 3 sedan on the driver’s side. As a result, the tractor lost control, flipped onto its left side and skidded across the left lane and shoulder. The load spilled into the southbound side of I-95.

The driver and a passenger of the Mazda 3 were wearing seat belts and did not sustain injuries. Lue Terrell identified himself as the driver of the Mazda on Facebook and said he was taking his son to visit his newborn grandson at the time of the crash.

The driver of the tractor, Jeremiah Perry, 32, of Newport News, was wearing his seat belt and did not sustain injuries.

VDOT assisted with the road closure, which took an extended period of time due to the cleanup.

Perry was charged with reckless driving. The crash remains under investigation.
