Phyllis Kellar Bass

Phyllis Kellar Bass, 84 of Chester, Va., passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and a daughter of the late Kendall Hubert Kellar and Camilla Fauntleroy Hughes.

Phyllis was a graduate of Randolph Macon Woman’s College and a school teacher for 37 years. She was a member of Chester Baptist Church, a founding member of the Chester YMCA, the Chester Woman’s Club, the Historical Society of Chesterfield, the Shepherd’s Center, Chester Community Association and Chesterfield Senior Hall of Fame.

Phyllis loved world travel, national parks, the military and Virginia history. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roger Thompson Bass; son, Roger T. Bass II and wife, Elizabeth Santini; grandchildren, Braden Bass, Caroline Bass and Garrett Bass; and sister, Gwen Alston.

A service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2019 at Chester Baptist Church, 4317 School St., Chester, VA 23831.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service during the reception.
